Iyengar Yoga Exchange of Learning Day

Yoga on Tay's Julie Anderson was delighted to lead the Iyengar Yoga UK's Exchange of Learning Day which took place at the Larick Centre in Tayport, Fife on Sunday 16th November 2025.

With 12 Certified Iyengar teachers and a trainee (a warm welcome to Sahar!) in attendance, this style of group learning and idea sharing aimed to help inform and develop Iyengar Yoga teaching methods and techniques, amongst those attending. The day also contributed to their continuous learning requirement, required by all Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers to renew their Iyengar Yoga Teaching certificate each year.

The day started with a group practice and the theme of Twists was selected. Smaller break out groups looked a specific twisting poses and how the poses could be taught. Here are a selection of prop set ups and variations that were featured.

Seated Twist set ups

Bharadvajasana 2 was discussed and taught by several of the small groups and this prop set up from Ali Dashti's workshops was shown to help with the padmasana leg, to help release the hip and allow the padmasana knee to lower.

The belt was also used, tightly around the base of the thigh and the lower shin bone, to help the leg transition between Badda Konasana, Virasana, Marichyasana and Padmasana positions. The belt helped keep the movement in the hip joint and prevented the knee from twisting and kept it in healthy alignment.
