Yoga on Tay

Class Description

This workshop series is open to all students who love their yoga and are keen to focus a bit more on quiet poses with mindful breathing exercises. We will work more closely with the 'holy trinity' of body, breath and mind. WHAT IS PRANAYAMA? 'Prana' is known as the 'life-force' or 'vital' energy of our being. It is associated with the breath as life starts with our first breath and ends with our last! Making the breath is a very tangible link between our asana work and more meditative work. 'Ayama' is the regulation of breath. When we first start yoga we use all manner of poses from standing, to twisting, to inversion etc. The poses open, elongate, expand and relax the physical body. We then further study the effects of asana on the body and breath in a way that also starts to open the mind. The vehicle or bridge between mind and body is often considered to be the breath. Simple pranayama begins with savasana as we focus on relaxing via the breath. You know that feeling when you just don't want savasana to end, that is when it has worked and the energies of mind body and breath are balanced. Savasana has 'worked'. Pranyayama is the subtle refinement of a wide variety of breathing exercises and techniques that bring us closer to our inner self or true consciousness. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRANAYAMA? The simple answer to this is many. They vary from one individual to another, from one practice to the next. Most people feel more relaxed, sleep better and experience a better level of energy for a few days which collectively sharpens mental awareness. These feelings come from the cleansing quality of the practice on the circulation which also improves endocrine function WHO CAN JOIN THESE WORKSHOPS? You will need to have attended the previous 2 workshops in this series or have a MINIMUM of 2 year’s current class attendance with a certified Iyengar teacher and ideally be familiar with shoulder balance. Cost £25 “Your body exists in the past and your mind exists in the future. In yoga, they come together in the present.” B.K.S. Iyengar
